Ahead of Wednesday’s Semi-final clash between the Desert Hawks of Sudan and the home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Completesportsnigeria.com‘s JAMES AGBEREBI unveils FIVE ‘dangerous’ players Croatian coach, Zdravko Logarusic could unleash on Salisu Yusuf’s team. These are the players Eagles must keep quiet while firing on all cylinders for Nigeria’s spot in the final.
AKRAM EL HADI SALIM (Goalkeeper: Jersey number 16)
The 30-year Al-Hilal goalkeeper has been instrumental in all the four games Sudan have played at the on-going 2018 Africa Nations Championship.
El Hadi Salim has only picked the ball out of his net just once in four games so far, which was in their 2-1 defeat to Guinea in Group D. Sudan finished second in the group, behind Morocco to advance into the quarter-finals.
He is the only goalkeeper who has faced the hosts, Morocco, but kept a clean sheet.
And in the quarter-final against Zambia, El Hadi Salim made strings of vital saves to help his side into the last four.
Saifeddin Malik Bakhit Maki (Forward, Jersey number 9)
Saifeddin scored two of Sudan’s four goals scored so far at CHAN 2018.
It was his goal that eliminated a very good Zambian team from the tournament despite going into the game as underdogs.
Saifeddin showed how clinical he can be when inside the box as he wriggled away from his marker before slotting the ball beneath the on rushing Zambian keeper despite being under
close challenge .
In their opening game against Guinea, Saifeddin was the hero as he scored the winner with 15 minutes remaining to earn his side the win.
OMER SULEIMAN KOKO (Defender, Jersey number 4)
The Al Ahli defender has been one of the bedrock of the Sudanese team especially in the defence.
Koko has played a no small part which has seen Sudan concede just one goal in four games so far in the tournament.
Aside from just defending, Koko has also proved that he can also contribute his own share of the goals especially from set-plays.
He scored his country’s first goal of the tournament in the 2-1 win against Guinea when he leaped to head home a corner, showcasing his aerial strength.
SAMAWAL MERGHANI (Defender, Jersey number 18)
One of Sudan’s reliable defenders who has impressed with his performance for his side.
Merghani has been part of a solid backline that has been very difficult to break down in the 2018 CHAN tournament.
Together with his defensive backline, they have only been breached just once which was in the 2-1 win against Guinea in their first Group A game.
And in the games against Morocco and Zambia, Merghani put up a spirited showing which thwarted the attacking threats of both teams.
WALAA ELDIN MUSA (Forward, Jersey number 13)
Walaa Eldin Musa could be described as the baby in the Sudanese squad to 2018 CHAN in Morocco at just 18 years.
Following his impressive performance after coming on against Guinea, the Sudan Croatian coach, Zdravko Logarusić, was forced to give him a starting shirt against Mauritania.
Musa justified the coach’s faith in him by scoring the only goal in their 1-0 win against Mauritania which secured their qualification for the quarter-finals.
