5 key Talking Points From NPFL Super-4 Match-day 1

Completesportsnigeria.com's ADEBOYE AMOSU who is in Enugu covering the Nigeria Professional Football League Super-Four competition, presents five key talking points from the opening day – Wednesday, December 7, 2016.

1. WIKKI TOURISTS LIVE WELL     WITHOUT ABDU MAIKABA

Wikki Tourits opening Super Four clash against FC Ifeanyiubah was to be a test on how they will fare after the exit of their former technical adviser, Abdu Maikaba who dumped them to join Akwa United.

But if any thing, they passed the test in Flying colours as they not only beat the Anambra Warriors, but dominated from start to finish.

They therefore maintained their reputation as one of the most exciting sides in the league.

Their new boys; Jonathan ZIkiye who joined from Kano Pillars and the duo of Shamah Tanze and Bature Yaro who only last week completed their switch from Nasarawa United also proved that they are ready to replace players who  left the club.

2. FC IFEANYIUBAH FAIL TO IMPRESS UNDER NEW COACH

FC Ifeanyiubah's decision to dump their former Brazilian coach, Rafeal Everton Lira for Japanese American trainer, Kenichi Yatsuhaghi was widely criticized by many and they might end up regretting that decision if their performance don't improve in subsequent games.

The Anambra Warriors never really impressed against Wikki Tourists, and the players look like they are playing together for the first time.

Their remaining two games in the competition will indicate how ready they are for the task ahead.

3. CHAMPIONS RANGERS YET TO HIT TOP

Though they started their campaign with a 2-0 win against Rivers United, champions Enugu Rangers were far from their best in the encounter.

Key stars from last season  like Bobby Clement, Godwin Aguda and Christian Madu failed to impress in the game and their fans will like to see them improve in subsequent games.

4. RIVERS' GABRIEL WASSA PROVES HIS CLASS ONCE AGAIN

Rivers United left back, Gabriel Wassa is referred to by many as the best in his position in the Nigeria Professional Football League, and not a lot of people will doubt that status after what can be described as a scintillating display against Enugu Rangers.

Gabriel was a constant threat to the Rangers defence, especially in the first half as they struggled to cope against his overlapping runs.

Fans of the club can expect much more from the defender who was a star performer for Niger Tornadoes last season.

5. RIVERS UNITED IN GOOD SHAPE DESPITE DEFEAT

Stanley Eguma's side proved in the first half of their clash against Enugu Rangers that they will be a force to reckon with again this season.

Key forwards, Bernard Ovoke and Guy Kuemian tormented the Rangers defence with ease and new arrivals like Nzube AnaezembaEsosaIgbinobaBolaji Sakin and Emeka  Ogbuh have make the squad stronger.
