Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU tells you five reasons why you should follow the proceedings in today, Wednesday’s Match Day 27 fixtures of the Glo Premier League.
1. CAN HEARTLAND END SUNSHINE STARS’ UNBEATEN HOME STREAK?
Sunshine Stars despite their struggles on the road, have the best home record in the league this season. The Akure Gunners have succeeded in making the Akure Township Stadium a slaughter slab against opposing teams as they have won all their games at the venue.
And if there is any side capable of ending that impressive run, it is Heartland. The Bethel Orji led side have picked two wins on the road against Shooting Stars and Kwara United and will be determined to leave Akure with a positive result.
2. TOP SCORERS; ADENIJI, EJIKE CLASH IN AKURE
Aside from the battle between their sides, Sunshine Stars’ Segun Adeniji and his Heartland’s counterpart, Bright Ejike will be out to outshine each other in this highly anticipated clash.
Adeniji currently top the scorers chart with 13 goals, with Ejike one goal behind his rival.
Ejike broke his six game goal drought when he converted a penalty to give the Naze Millionaires a 1-0 win against Warri Wolves last weekend.
Adeniji on other hand failed to rescue his side from going down to a 2-1 defeat by Wikki Tourists last weekend.
He last scored for the Owena Waves in the Week 25 clash against El-kanemi Warriors.
3. CAN CHAMPIONS PILLARS END THREE MATCH WINLESS STREAK?
Kano Pillars have struggled to impress in the league this season and their new gaffer Mohammed Babaganaru is now under pressure after a run of three games without a win.
The Sai Masu Gida have lost their last three games 1-0 against Enyimba, 2-1 to Nasarawa United and fell 1-0 to Taraba United last weekend.
They host Kwara United at the Sani Abacha Stadium on today (Wednesday) desperate to get their season back on track.
4. BAYELSA SEARCH FOR FIRST WIN OF SECOND STANZA
The Restoration Boys look like a sure candidates for the drop as they currently sit in the last position on the log.
They are the only side yet to record a win in the second stanza of the current season.
All eyes will be on them to see if they can end the barren run when they entertain GIwa FC at the Oghara Township Stadium.
5. ENYIMBA EAGER TO END ORIENTAL HOODOO
Enyimba have failed to win their last two games against Oriental sides at their home ground in Aba.
Abia Warriors and Rangers escaped the Enyimba Sports Stadium unscathed in recent weeks.
A repeat of that result could be dangerous to the six-time Champions’ title aspiration.
