5 Outstanding Home Eagles So Far At CHAN 2018

With the Home-based Super Eagles set to face Sudan in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU picks Nigeria’s top five players so far at the tournament…

IKECHUKWU EZENWA

The captain of the team was at his best in Nigeria’s 2-1 quarter-final victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola on Sunday. The Eagles should probably have been home now and not thinking of a date with Sudan in the last four if not for his bravery and heroics in goal.

Ezenwa has led by example in the competition even though he was largely tested prior to the Angolan game but he has been a good leader on and off the pitch.

STEPHEN EZE

The tall defender was axed in a couple of test games ahead of the African Nations Championship and that seems to have motivated him as he has worked very hard to become a mainstay in the team’s defence.
Eze, who will link up with Bulgarian club Locomotiv Plovdiv at the end of the competition won the man of the match in the game against Rwanda.

DAYO OJO

Dayo Ojo was dropped from the squad to the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, but he has proved his worth with an impressive showing in Morocco.

The Sunshine Stars midfielder scored a screamer in Nigeria’s last group game against Equatorial Guinea and was duly named the man of the match.
He also did well in the quater-final clash against Angola, and he was one of Nigeria’s best performers in the game.

KALU ORJI

One of the four players in the team that were part of the squad to the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda. He has formed a formidable partnership with Stephen Eze at the heart of the team’s defence and was sorely missed after going off injured in Nigeria’s quarter-final game against Angola.

OSAS OKORO

The right-back has done his job well in the competition. Originally a right winger, the Enugu Rangers player is a willing runner who always supports the attack and performs his defensive tasks.

Yeah, i agree to the above list but i think Faleye and Atuloma have been wonderful. Faleye has been the real eagle on the wing and his runs and dribbles are always tangible for the Eagles. Atuloma is the man doing the dirty midfield jobs, but the arrival of Ojo after Ifeanyi’s Injury has made his work less obvious.

TECHNICAL know-how is the problem of this team, individually, they are good….even Okpotu has got good leg works, good passing and positioning, his problem is decision making. Rabiu Ali showed us he is supposed to be leader of this team in the second half of the last game.

That left back that replaced Monday James in the last game….why has the coach been keeping him on the bench? That guy is a natural and talented left back…good dribble, good clearance, wonderful crosses.

    • Adeniyi, you just spoke my mind. The guy you’re talking about is Ikuowuem or something. He’s a natural and with good grooming from a technically indepth coach like Rohr, he could fight for a place in the main SE. I like Faleye too. Okpotu is not soo bad by the bad, and I think it’s unfair for Complete Sports to have left him our in this list. Check the through pass he made to Gabriel at about the 86 minute that the guy blundered. World class! Remember also, complete sports, that Okpotu literally brought the team back from the brink of elimination and into the semi final. So, why not acknowledge him (even if only for that). Rabiu is a leader and I’d prefer him as the captain to Ezenwa. Everyone might be singing Ezenwa’s praise now, but he cannot face Messi & Co in the world cup please. He’ll just mess up all the hardwork of his teammates. We still don’t really have a goal keeper.

The Nigerian best leg in the 2018 CHAN tournament is Faleye and next to him are Stephen Eze and Osas Okoro before Dayo Ojo, Kalu Orji, Emeka Otuluoma and Ikechukwu Ezenwa follow as some of the good ones. The people in the team is the entire technical crew after Okpotu who is the individual worst player in the tournament.

The worst members of the team is the entire technical crew before Okpotu who is the overall individual worst player in the whole tournament.

Can CompleteSports help tell the CHAN Eagles coach to stop fielding the players wearing the jersey numbers 7, 8, 9, & 10? The are not players for this tournament. Their godfathers can keep them in their local clubs for now if they are useful there as the leagues is in progress.
