Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU who was at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on the opening day of the Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament on Monday highlights the five major talking points from the match day one fixtures…
ENYIMBA SOLID WITH NEW SIGNINGS
The seven-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba fielded five of their new signings Ernest Governor, Onaolapo Olayinka, Wasiu Alalade, Chinedu Udeagha and Austine Oladapo against Plateau United and looked pretty solid for most of the game.
Right-back Onaolapo, a new arrival from Nasarawa United, took the place of the injured Dare Ojo in the defence and was impressive all through. He also had a goal wrongly chalked off for offside in the first half.
The duo ofGovernor and Alalade who linked up with the Aba giants from relegated ABS were also in fine form. The former pulled the strings in midfield, while the latter impressed on the right and provided the assist for another new arrival Udeagha’s goal.
Oladapo, who bagged 10 goals for relegated Gombe United in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season, had a telepathic understanding with Udeagha upfront and both terrorised the Plateau United defence all through.
PLATEAU UNITED NOT READY FOR NEW SEASON
Fans of Nigeria Professional Football League champions Plateau United must be worried by the output of their players against Enyimba on Monday. Despite their numerical advantage, the Jos side were dominated by their opponents and looked bereft of ideas in the game.
The team struggled to make much impact in their previous pre-season games coming into the NPFL invitational tournament and struggled to impress all through.
MFM FC, AKWA UNITED POOR TRANSFER DEALINGS
The Olukoya Boys had only three players on the bench in their clash against Akwa United. They were unable to field their new signings as they are yet to be properly cleared by the League Management Company.
They were forced to make an early substitution when Abdullahi Suleiman sustained an injury and had to be replaced by Jonathan Zikiye.
For Akwa United’s Kelly Kester who recently joined the club from Enyimba it was a bitter pill to swallow as he had to sit out the game against MFM after his name was removed from the starting line-up as he is yet to be fully registered by the Promise Keepers.
PLATEAU UNITED’s TOSIN OMOYELE PROVES HIS CLASS
Plateau United’s young exciting forward Tosin Omoyele who scored 15 goals for Osun United in the Nigeria National League last season was the side’s only bright spot in their clash against Enyimba on Monday.
Omoyele was all over the Enyimba defence for the entire game and coolly slotted a penalty past Fatau Dauda late on in the game to earn his side a share of the spoils.
GOALKEEPERS ON THE HIGH
Four goals were recorded from two games on the opening day of the NPFL invitational tournament thanks to the impressive performances of the goalkeepers.
Plateau United’s Okiemute Odah was the most impressive as he saved a penalty and kept his team in the game against Enyimba by making some vital saves.Unblock the FIFA World Cup with ExpressVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
