Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled Mesut Ozil out of Tuesday’s round 16 UEFA Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich at the Emirates.
Ozil missed Arsenal’s Premier League 3-1 loss against Liverpool due to illness and Wenger has revealed that the former Real Madrid player has not recovered fully for the game against Bayern.
“Ozil is not in the squad,” Wenger said in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game.
“I don’t think he’s ready physically. I think he will be ready for the weekend (FA Cup quarter-final against Lincoln).”
Wenger stated that he hasn’t decided whether Alexis Sanchez will start against Bayern.
He also debunked claims that Sanchez had a fallout with his teammates, stating that the Chilean’s future will be decided by the London club.
“I haven’t decided yet. I hope he will be very happy tomorrow night,” Wenger said.
“Completely false (on Sanchez falling out). I understand you have to fill newspapers, and I respect that. We have to accept that.
“He has 15 months left on his contract. The decision will depend completely on Arsenal football club.”
On Sanchez being Arsenal’s only outstanding player, Wenger said: “When (Alexis) did not perform away we lost too. We lost at Chelsea. We lost at United. We lost at City.”
And on Arsenal’s clash against Bayern, Wenger said: “I think it’s up to us to show a different face tomorrow… because we literally blew it away there in the second half.”
