Hibernian Coach Lennon Keen To Offer Ambrose Permanent Deal

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon has revealed he is looking to keep Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose after the club’s promotion from the Scottish Championship.

Ambrose, 28, is out of contract with Celtic in just over a months’ time and is likely to leave the newly crowned Scottish champions after spending the second half of the campaign on loan with Hibernian.

“That’s something we’re looking into,” Lennon told Edinburgh Evening News.

“He’s not our player, but if we get an opportunity to sit down with him next week and see what his plans are, then it’s something we will pursue.

“Obviously we’d have to speak to Efe, his representatives and Celtic as well. He’s back playing and showing the country what he’s capable of, the quality of player he is.”

Ambrose opted to join Hibernian on loan after making just two senior appearances for Celtic back in July this season, which saw him go eight months without playing competitively.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner almost joined English Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers in the January transfer window, but a move failed to materialise due to work permit problems.

He eventually remained in Scotland and instead joined Hibernian, where he has made 13 appearances in all competitions and proved crucial in helping them secure promotion back to the top flight.
