Iheanacho Returns As Man City Thrash Palace, Go Third

Manchester City strengthened their chance of finishing in the top four following their impressive 5-0 win against relegation-threatened Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was subbed on for Gabriel Jesus six minutes to the end of the game, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Iheanacho’s last league appearance was in the 3-0 win over Southampton on 15 April when he played just one minute. He was not in the Manchester City squad for their last two league games. He has now made 19 Premier League appearances this season, 14 of them as a substitute, and scored four goals.

It was a game which City bossed from start to finish and deservedly won.

Goals from David Silva, his 50th goal in all competitions for City, skipper Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Nicolas Otamendi sealed the comfortable win for City.

The win takes City to third on 69 points in the league table but with a game in hand, while Palace are 16th and six points away from the relegation zone.

City started impressively as Silva pounced on a poor clearance by the Palace defence to net his 50th goal in all competition for the Citizens.

In the 21st minute City almost added to their lead but Jesus could not connect with Raheem Sterling’s cross.

Leroy Sane went close in the 31st minute but his shot was parried away by Wayne Hennessey with Sterling’s follow-up cleared off the line.

Three minutes later Hennessey once again thwarted Sane from his near post.

In the 48th minute of the second half, Kompany doubled City’s lead after placing DeBruyne’s pass into the top corner.

City continued pile the pressure and were unlucky not to extend their lead in the 52nd minute as De Bruyne’s 20-yard strike came off the crossbar.

De Bruyne eventually got his goal in the 59th minute, neatly finishing off after he was teed up by Jesus.

In the 72nd minute Palace had their first real attempt on goal but Willy Caballero tipped over a deflected effort for a corner.

City went 4-0 up in the 82nd minute thanks to Sterling who finished off Pablo Zabaleta’s well cushioned header.

And in the 92nd minute Otamendi rounded off the rout with a superb header from De Bruyne’s free-kick.
