Monaco Coach Proud Of Players As Falcao Blames Missed Chances

AS Monaco coach Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim says he is proud of his players despite their exit from this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Monaco lost 2-1 to Juventus in Turin in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Tuesday, crashing out 4-1 on aggregate.

But Jardim posited that his players did their best in both legs of the semi-final against Juventus.

“The players gave everything. We exit the competition with our heads held high,” Jardim said in his post-match press conference.

The last time Monaco got to the semifinal of the Champions League was in the 2003/2004 season where they elimnated Chelsea 5-3 on aggregate to advance into the final.

In the final, they lost 3-0 to a Jose Mourinho-led FC Porto side.

However, Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has blamed his team’s profligacy in front of goal as reason for their elimination in the hands of Juventus after a 2-1 defeat in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

Juventus won the reverse fixture 2-1 in Turin to progress into their second final in three seasons 4-1 on aggregate.

Mario Mandzukic and Dani Alves gave Juventus a 2-0 first half lead but Kylian Mbappe got a goal back for Monaco in the second half.

“They played really well and took their chances. We weren’t clinical enough when we had opportunities,” Falcao said in his post-match reaction.

“We fought hard all season for Monaco and for French football and we hope we’ll be better next season.”
