Nigerian forward Bright Edomwonyi was on target for relegation threatened Rizespor who beat visiting Gaziantepspor 2-0 in the top flight Turkish Super Lig on Saturday.
The goal was Edomwonyi’s second after 14 league appearances for Rizespor this campaign.
Also in action for Rizespor were Super Eagles star Godfrey Oboabona and Nosa Igiebor.
Igiebor was later withdrawn on 68 minutes.
Needing an outright win to keep their hopes of avoiding the drop, Edomwonyi put Rizespor 1-0 up in the 27th minute.
Leonard Kweuke made sure of the three points for Rizespor when he scored in the 80th minute.
Rizespor are now 16th on 30 points in the 18-team league with two games left and are five points adrift of 15th placed Bursaspor who have 35 points.
However, a win for Bursaspor away to Antalyaspor on Saturday will confirm Rizespor relegation to the Turkish second division.
