Oxlade Surprised Moses Was Sent Off In Cup Final

By James Agberebi:

Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain said he was not bothered when Nigerian international Victor Moses went down inside the box in Saturday’s FA Cup final but was surprised by the sending off.

With Arsenal 1-0 ahead halfway into the second half, Moses went down inside the Arsenal box close to Oxlade-Chamberlain but instead of awarding a spot-kick the referee showed the Chelsea wing-back a second yellow card for diving.

Arsenal went on to win 2-1 to claim their third FA Cup in four seasons and 13th overall.

“I didn’t fear the worst, not at all,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told arsenal.com.

“I think obviously when he went inside there was a moment when I sort of went to go for the ball, and then I thought he might just be a little bit ahead of me so I decided to pull out and not go for it.

“So as soon as Moses went down I was fully confident that I was nowhere near him and that the referee should have seen that so my heart didn’t really go in my mouth.

“I didn’t realise he was on a yellow so when that happened [the sending off] that was more of a surprise for me.

“But I knew I didn’t go anywhere near him and obviously it helped us to victory in the end.”
