By Johnny Edward in Uyo:
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has handed Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi a start in midfield for the senior national team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium here in Uyo scheduled to kick off at 5pm, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Ndidi has made seven appearances for the Super Eagles prior to this game since making his debut in 2015.
Rohr also recalled Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi to the starting line-up but left out the attacking trio of Henry Onyekuru, Victor Osimhen and Kayode Olanrewaju from the starting line-up.
The German coach however kept faith with the defence line that featured in the two warm-up games in Paris France last month.
The are Shehu Abdullahi at right back, the pair of William Troost-Ekong and Chidozie Awaziem in central defence and Elderson Echiejile at left-back.
In midfield, stand-in skipper Ogenyi Onazi will be partnered by Leicester City midfielder Ndidi while Oghenekaro Etebo will play ahead of the duo.
In attack, Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho will be flanked by Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi.
