Igboun Ends Nine-Month Drought, Obi Scores; Izunna Sees Red, Osimhen Out

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles forward Sylvester Igboun ended his nine-month goal drought on Saturday in FC Ufa’s 1-1 draw away to Ural in a Russian Premier League match, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The 27-year-old last scored for Ufa in their 2-0 win over Arsenal Tula on the 10th of October 2016 in the Russian league before Saturday’s goal. The Nigerian shot his side into the lead in the 17th minute but an own-goal from Jimmy Tabidze with two minutes left to play earned hosts Ural a share of the spoils.

“I’m happy with the goal and I hope to continue scoring more for my team,” the former FC Midtjylland player told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Igboun who has four international caps for the Super Eagles however refused to set a goal target for himself.

“I want to enjoy this moment, I will not set any target,” he added.

Igboun’s compatriot Kehinde Fatai was also in action but was replaced in the 78th minute in his third appearance this term.

At the VEB Arena in Moscow, Nigerian striker Aaron Samuel was an unused substitute for CSKA Moscow who beat SKA-Khabarovsk 2-0. He is yet to feature for CSKA Moscow this season after three league games.
In Denmark, Izunna Uzochukwu was sent off in OB Odense’s 1-0 home win over AC Horsen in a league game that saw eight yellow cards and two red cards issued by the centre referee.
The one cap Nigerian international got booked in the 42nd minute before receiving his marching orders with two minutes left to play.
It was his first ever red card in his career.
In a pre-season game also on Saturday, Torino’s Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi was on target for his side in their 2-0 win over French club Guingamp. It was his second pre-season goal for the club this summer.

In England, Nigerian forward Sone Aluko played all 90 minutes for Fulham who lost 3-0 to Wolfsburg in a pre-season friendly. His compatriot Victor Osimhem was not listed for the encounter.

John Anthony Brooks’ 36th minure header in the first-half gave the German Bundesliga side the lead before a second half brace from Mario Gomez (79th and 84th minutes) sealed the win.

It was the fifth win in six pre-season friendlies for head-coach Andries Jonker’s men.

Isaac Success also featured for 45 minutes in Watford’s goalless draw against Aston Villa.
