It turned out a case of head you win, tail you lose for Team Nigeria here in Congo as the boxing event of the 11th All Africa Games continued at Talangai on Monday.
Two Nigerian boxers were in the ring to commence the country’s quest for medals in that event, but only one of them was lucky enough to overpower his opponent and moved to the next round.
In the 91kg Super Heavyweight category, Team Nigeria’s Agbaja Efe knocked out his Kenyan challenger, Daniel Shisia to advance to the next stage.
However, it was not the same success story for Kareem Soyoye who lost to Team Togo’s Sarouna Fafiou Bless in the 60kg Lightweight category.
The referee had to stop the fight a minute to the end of the fight following a deep cut injury sustained by the Nigerian pugilist.
