Team Nigeria are on a gold medals rush as the 11th All Africa Games boxing event comes to a spectacular finish Saturday night in Talangai, Congo Brazzaville.
As expected Nigerian boxers showed dominance in the various categories so far decided.
After four final fights were decided amidst huge boxing enthusiasts that overflowed the hall Nigeria won three gold and one silver with two more categories yet to be decided.
In the 69kg weight category, Oluwafemi Oyeleye earned a unanimous points decision victory over his Camerounian opponent, Nsango Njikam, in the welterweight division.
Earlier Kehinde Obare fighting in the 57-60kg picked the gold medal effortlessly as her Tunisian opponent Hlimi Khouloud failed to show up.
Edith Ogoke also out punched her Egyptian foe, Rana Abdelhamid, to win the gold medal in the Women’s 69-75kg middle weight class.
The silver medal was won by Caroline Linus who lost to her Algerian counterpart, Bouchene Souhila, in the 48-51kg weight category.
Team Nigeria are still optimistic of more (gold) medals in boxing as the duo of Efe Ajagba and Apochi Efe Tobor both fighting in the heavyweight and super heavyweight classes respectively are yet to climb the roped arena.
The three gold medals and one silver so far won in boxing brings to 12, gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze medals Team Nigeria have won so far in the 11th All Africa Games which entered its ninth day on Saturday.
