Adepoju: Super Eagles Errors Will Be Corrected Before World Cup

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju believes there is no cause for alarm despite the Super Eagles’ 2-0 defeat to Serbia in their friendly in London on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Aleksandar Mitrovic was the hero for Serbia as he scored two goals to return his side to winning ways after they lost 2-1 to Morocco last Friday.

Prior to the game against Serbia, the Super Eagles had defeated Poland 1-0 in Wroclaw five days ago.

Following the outcomes of the friendlies, Adepoju expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will not disappoint.

“The two friendlies were good games,” Adepoju, who was at the USA 1994, France 1998 and Korea/Japan 2002 World Cups, told CSN.

“They won one and lost the second one nevertheless, it is still preparatory towards the World Cup. They should continue in that line and I believe the coaches would have seen some lapses which I believe they will correct. It is better to make the mistakes now than at the World Cup.

“The team still have enough time to correct all their mistakes and get to the World Cup in good form and I believe they will perform.”

The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner went on to comment on the friendlies against Poland and Serbia, stating all lapses will be corrected.

He added: “I didn’t see anything that was not right in the team (in the friendlies) just that in football once you make any mistake you get punished by conceding goals. And how to avoid conceding such goals is what the coaches need to work on. And with the calibre of coaches we have, I believe that will be sorted out.”
