Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has expressed his delight following Odion Ighalo's English Premier League Player of the Month Award for December.
Ighalo and his Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores, were both named EPL Player and Manager for the month of December, following a string of impressive displays by the Hornets.
The Super Eagles forward has now joined the duo of Austin Okocha and Osaze Odemwingie as Nigerians to have won the award.
Speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com, Adepoju stated that he is pleased that a Nigerian player is making waves in the English Premier League.
"It is a very good one," Adepoju said.
"It is a good news. At least one of our player is winning an award which he really deserves because he really did well and he has been scoring goals.
"And I'm also happy a Nigerian player is making a very big impact in a league like the Premier League.
He also stated that Ighalo stands a good chance of being nominated for the 2016 African Player of the Year.
"I believe with this award, he stands a chance of getting a look in for the Africa Player of the Year Award.
"This is a good start, I believe more awards will come his way, all he needs to do now is to keep on working hard."
