Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee, Chairman Ahmed Fresh Yusuf, has redeemed his pledge of one million naira to the Golden Eaglets team after they qualified for the final of the AFCON U-17 qualifying tournament in Niamey, Niger Republic, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Nigeria U-17s led by Manu Garba defeated Niger 2-1 in their semi-final clash at the Seyni Koutnche Stadium, Niamey on Wednesday, to rekindle a 67–year rivalry with a Ghanian team, this time the Black Starlets, for Saturday’s final. The winner will qualify for the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Yusuf who is contesting for a place on the executive board of the NFF from the Nort Central Zone, also promised the team two million naira should they beat Ghana in Saturday’s final. Ghana had earlier defeated Cote d’Ivoire in the first semi-final at the same venue.
“NFF Tech committee chairman @AhmedfreshYusuf fulfills his promise to the Eaglets, gives them a Million Naira for the win against Niger, and promises to reward them with 2Million Naira if they beat Ghana in Saturday’s #AfconU17Q final. #SoarGoldenEaglets,” a tweet on the official handle of the NFF revealed.
Goals from Akinwumi Amoo in the 45th minute and another from Olakunle Oluwasegun before the hour gave the Eaglets 2-0 lead against Niger. The home team pulled a goal back late on, but the Nigerian boys held on for a remarkable win.
The finals of the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations finals will hold in Tanzania.
