Nigeria enjoyed a successful outing on day two of the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba, carting home two gold, one silver and one bronze medals, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Commonwealth champion, Oluwatobiloba Amusan started the medal haul when she won gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.86s.
South Africa’s Rikennete Steenkamp came second in a time of 13.18, while Rosvitha Okoi went home with bronze medal with a time of 13.39s.
In the men’s shot put event, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi secured gold medal with a throw of 21.08m.
Mohamed Khalifa and Kyle Blignaut of Egypt and South Africa went home with silver and bronze with a throw of 19.33m and 19.05m respectively.
Team Nigeria’s Temi Ogunride came second behind Zakour Soukaina of Morocco in the women’s hammer throw with a throw of 67.39m.
Soukaina won with a throw of 68.28m. Jennifer Bawistika of Congo came third with a throw of 63.43m.
Joy Udo- Gabriel won bronze medal in the women’s100m final with a time of 11.58s.
Favourite, Marie Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast won the race with a time of 11.15s, while Ghana’s Janet Amponsah came second with a time of 11.54s.
