Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick on his 200th English Premier League appearance for Manchester City who restored their 12-point lead at the top of the table on Saturday by defeating Newcastle United 3-1 at the Ethiad stadium.
Second-placed Manchester United had earlier on Saturday edged Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor to prune the gap to nine but Aguero’s treble – his seventh for Manchester City – saw Pep Guardiola’s side bounce back from their 4-3 defeat at Liverpool last week.
Aguero took his tally to 138 for Manchester City and the defeat means Newcastle United have failed to record a win in their last 20 games against Manchester City.
The Magpies started out defending well and they had the first chance on goal in the second minute of the game when Ciran Clark hurriedly poked a shot on goal which was easily collected by Ederson Moraes.
Aguero ensured City got the lead in the 34th minute when he glanced home Kevin De Bruyne’s cross.
Argentina striker Aguero doubled City’s lead from the spot after Sterling was brought down in the box by Manquillo in the 63rd minute.
Four minutes later, Jacob Murphy from nowhere raced on to Ciran Clark’s clearance to beat Ederson with a dink to make it 2-1 for Newcastle United. The goal was Murphy’s first goal since his £12m pound move from Norwich City.
Aguero finished off a brilliant run from Sane with a close-range finish after the German star had beaten three Newcastle defenders before laying a pass for the Argentine in the six yard box.Unblock the FIFA World Cup with ExpressVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
