Argentina Set To Drop Aguero, Caballero For Super Eagles Clash; Di Maria To Start

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero is set to be dropped from his country’s crucial Group D Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup clash against Nigeria in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday.
Aguero is one of several players at loggerheads with Argentina head coach Jorge Sampaoli following the team’s 1-1 draw against debutants Iceland and a 3-0 loss to Croatia.
It is understood that some of the players approached Argentine Football Association  president Claudio Tapia to ask that Sampaoli be either sacked or give them a voice in team selection.
But according to The Mirror, Aguero could be punished by being left on the bench for the clash with Nigeria as Sampaoli won his battle to remain as manager in Russia.
Aguero opened Argentina’s goals account at this year’s FIFA World Cup as he put them ahead in their 1-1 draw against Iceland.
But he was substituted in the 3-0 humiliation by Croatia that left Sampaoli’s future in the balance.
Following the new development, Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuian will likely replace Aguero while Willy Caballero will be replaced by Franco Armani even though the 31-year-old will be winning his first cap.
Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega also come in, with Marcos Acuna and Enzo Perez dropping out.
Argentina must win against Nigeria and hope that Iceland do not win against Croatia in order to progress to the next round of the competition.
