Aguero Reaches Milestone As Man City Extend Lead; Stoke, Brighton, Newcastle Win

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League to 14 points after defeating Bournemouth 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Sergio Aguero headed in the opener in the 27th minute. The goal was Aguero’s 100th at the Etihad Stadium. Raheem Sterling, Danilo and Aguero scored again in the second half to wrap up the victory.

Manchester City dominated the game as expected with Bournemouth having more men behind the ball.

David Silva latched on to a poor clearance to find Fernandinho at the edge of the box. The Brazilian found Aguero with a lovely cross and the Argentine made no mistake in powering a diving header beyond Begovic and into the bottom-left corner.

Sterling made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute, firing in Aguero’s flick in the Bournemouth box.

Aguero scored his second of the game in the 79th minute to take his tally to 101 at the Ethiad before Danilo came off the bench to sealed the empathic win three minutes later. It was Danilo’s first ever English Premier League goal.

At the Amex Stadium in Brighton, Nigerian winger Isaac Success was left out of Watford’s squad that lost 1-0 to Brighton Hove Albion. Success has been named in the substitutes bench six times this season.

Pascal Gross scored the winner for the home team in the 64th minute. It was Watford’s fourth consecutive defeat.

At Saint Mary’s Stadium, Southampton were held to a 1-1 draw by Huddersfield Town.

At the Bet365 stadium, goals from Joe Allen and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting gave Stoke City a 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion. The win also saw Stoke move out of the relegation zone before the New Year.

Allen slotted in the opener for Stoke City in the 18th minute before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time.

Salomon Rondon pulled one back in the 51st minute. Ramadan Sobhi came off the substitute’s bench to score his side’s third which put the game beyond West Brom in the 94th minute.

At the Liberty stadium Jordan Ayew rescued a point for Swansea City who forced Crystal Palace to a 1-1 draw. Luka Milivojevic gave Palace the lead from the spot on the hour mark.

At the Olympic Stadium in London, Newcastle United came from a goal down to defeat West Ham 3-2. It was Newcastle United’s first win in nine games.

Marko Arnautovic struck the opener in the sixth minute but goals from Henri Saivet, Mohamed Diame and Christian Atsu gave the Magpies a 3-1 lead after 70 minutes of action.

Andre Ayew missed a penalty to restore parity at 2-2 but made amends scoring his side’s se on goal of the encounter.
