Gernot Rohr’s men face Poland on the 23rd of March in Warsaw, Poland before taking on Serbia four days later at the Hive Stadium in England.

Ajayi has been in great for Al Ahly this season, scoring eight goals and assisting nine in 23 games for the Red Devils who are closing in on a 40thEgyptian Premier League title.

“Junior’s invitation to the Super Eagles will be a great addition, he has been doing well with his team and let’s see if he can translate that to the senior national team,” a top Nigeria Football Federation source revealed to CSN.

The former 36 Lion Shooting Stars Sports Club and CS Sfaxien winger was part of Nigeria’s Olympic team that won bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Yes , that is a great coach with a great eyes , Ajayi deserve the call up , Please we want to see jEOL OBI in the list ,

  • Sint. 9 months ago

Yes I have advocated for his inclusion in the squad and I am happy for this development. It is left for Ajayi to use this opportunity greatly. I wish you well Ajayi.

  • what a new dawn in the history of Nigeria football!
Rohr and Amaju picnick-led NFE are going d right ways, Ajayi deserved the call up and he is nw invited. Rumours has it that Joel Obi has also bn invited. Dis shows Rohr is a man of his words. It’s only left 4 d players to justify their call ups. With this kinda of thing and luck, Eagles will soar at the Mundial

  • Joel obi, should be on the list also Mr roha pls.

  • Kingmaker 9 months ago

Good to see players earlier advocated for being penciled down for trials against Poland & Serbia.
Recall that when I first mentioned Junior Ajayi for call up as part of four (4) Nigerian players deserving a chance for assessment, some commentators hushed me down.
I really don’t bother wit such comments, besides the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion, not many understand what modern football entails, nor what it is like preparing for a WC where experience is key.
Others expected to be on the list will include:
    1) Obagoal Martins
    2) Joel Obi (Confirmed)
    3) Noah Joel Sarenen Bazee (Confirm)
    4) Junior Ajayi (Confirmed)
    5) Austin Ejide
Watch out, I shall bring u more names on the list.

Azubuike okechukwu should be handed a call. He has been in great form.

      • Fidelenny 9 months ago

I agree with you. Nigerians have forgotten so soon how Azubiuke Okechuckwu, alongside Mikel dictated the pace in the midfield during the Olympic. He’s the only player very closed to Mikel Obi in the midfield. He’s visionary with an eye to pick out players.

  • David Ekpe 9 months ago

I say no to obagoal but I prefer young lard like C. Desser and R Sanusi. Old confirm is obi Joel invited along side bazee. Pls completesport confirm for us the above.

  • It is looking like the Russia 2018 world cup team will look like Atlanta 1996 Olympic team.
So many good midfielders who can score goals with Kanu Nwankwo as a fake #9.

I see Ajayi, Joel Obi, Etebo, Iwobi, Mike Obi, John Pig, even Iheanacho, with IGHALO the only #9.

This might as well be the case after all we got a great coach in Rohr just like Bonfere Joe.

Carry go SE. Good luck and God forbid injuries to our players.

  • My bad, John Ogu, instead.

  • Nigerians never learn. Ajayi will not have any impact in the world cup. You need to stick with the team you have and use the friendlies to work on tactics. The world cup is 101 days away, and now we want new set of players. There’s no player out there that’s better than the core of talent in the eagles now. Joel Obi is not better than Mikel, Ndidi, Onazi or even Etebo. So why all the troubles of bringing in another midfielder. The focus should be fullbacks, center backs and goalkeeper. This team has enough midfielders and attackers. We always like to bring in new players for every major competition- a strategy that never works. The last major trophy we won was the nations cup. I remembered all the verbal assault that the late Stephen Keshi endured for his failure to include new players to his team. He stuck with his team, and won the nations cup. Unless a Messi or Ronaldo just fall from heaven and is eligible to play for Nigeria, then leave the team alone. Don’t mess up the chemistry.

    • msugh 9 months ago

I concord wit you.Really there is no time for experiment

    • Paschal 9 months ago

“For Keshi’s failure to bring new players”. Are you kidding me? KESHI actually won the nations cup with totally new players, Omeruo, Onazi, Mba, Ejike, Obiora Nwankwo(On d bench), even Oboabona these were mostly unknown players. How can you say Keshi won the cup with old players?

  • Njugo Emmanuel 9 months ago

we need Joel Obi’s inclusion,he’s really doing a great job for torino presently….the team that qualified us should be maintained but a solid bench also is needed

  • Rohr is getting it right & happy Ajayi got his call up to national team atlast .joel is good to see you back but I still need some players in Super Eagle likes of Taiwo,Bazee and Kalu, goalkeeper sebastine from Switzerland coz we need a Good strikers for the mundia and capable keeper. thanks.

  • THERE IS NO NIGERIAN PLAYER WHO HAD PLAYED FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM BEFORE NOW CAN BE SAID TO BE A STRANGER TO THE TEAM IF INVITED, WHAT THEY NEED IS A LITTLE TIME TO GEL WITH THE OTHERS. I THINK THE INVITATION OF AJAYI JUNIOR IF TRUE, WILL REALLY BE A WELCOME DEVELOPMENT. GOING FOR THE WORLD CUP IS NOT A TEA PARTY IF WE WANT TO MAKE ANY MEANINGFUL IMPACT, WE MUST GO WITH BAGS OF TRICKS WITH PLAYERS WHO CAN BRING NEW THINGS TO THE TABLE WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THAT IS WHY COMMENTATORS SHOULD ENCOURAGE EVERY MOVE TO INVITE PLAYERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY HOT IN THE FIELD OF PLAY NOT THOSE WARMING THE BENCH IN THEIR CLUBS EVEN IF THEY WERE PART OF THE TEAM THAT GOT US THE QUALIFICATION.EMPHASIS IS ON CURRENT FORM.

  • Josleck 9 months ago

This is a welcome development only if his inclusion is limited to these friendlies, because I dont know who Ajayi will displace in the front line maybe moses or iwobi. Remember the we have limited number of players that will be going that’s why we need to be mindful of new addition especially in midfield and attack because the tournament is around d corner

  • @ Ola, Nigeria won 2013 nation’s cup with just 11 to 13 players out of 23 that went for the tournament… Enyeama, ambrose, omeruo, oboabona, yobo, echiejile, onazi, mba, Mikel, moses, ideye and emenike….apart from ogude and uche, name any good player from that bench that can truly match these first eleven. Now, we are having a coach that is trying to build a Man City like team, u pple are still complaining if Joel obi is not better than Mikel, indidi, onazi and etebo as u have said, 3 of these 4 u mentioned will surely start our match. Then in case of injury, are these players(ogu, Mikel agu and agbo) also better than him? I want UE answer pls. No did respect bro..just wanna here ur say.

    • @ Sean, Hey bro. You did make a serious case for the inclusion of Joel Obi ( a player I admire). However, I don’t want to see him in Russia with this team for several reasons. I’m not going to debate his talent, because he’s a more rounded midfielder than Onazi,Ndidi and Etebo. However, he’s not durable. The guy is always injured. I’m not blaming him for his injury woes but I don’t want him taking a world cup spot way from another player that can actually help this team. Secondly, as talented as Joel Obi is as a midfielder, he does have chemistry issues when playing with the super eagles. His game does not complement Mikel (who is our best player). He likes to roam (box-to-box midfielder), which tends to expose the backline when the team loses the ball. Honestly, he’s a dynamic player. I just have issues with durability and chemistry on the pitch (when he plays for Nigeria). Although Rohr knows more football than I can ever forget, maybe the coach can resolve the chemistry issues with him and Mikel playing together. Thanks for your insight.

    Excellent!
Star boy, Junior Ajayi on current form is Africa’s best attacking midfielder, ahead of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane` & Algeria’s attacking wizard, Islam Slimani.
Nigeria is blessed to have him.
This young player has a chance to show us what stuff he is made of in the two (2) high profile friendlies later this month.
We can understand the clamour for all young team, or to retain only players who laboured to achieve SE qualification.
That itself will be a coup of sentiments on show..
WC tournament is not AFCON, neither is it African qualifiers.
Let us get it clear, a player out of form, though did very well in the qualifiers would be dropped.
GR made it clear that he is still open & searching for that extra bit in the puzzle to complete his team.
WC is for the best national legs, whether or not they were in the qualifiers.
However, WC list must consider experienced players as well to be taken serious.
GR included Elderson Echejeile, Odion Ighalo, Brown Ideye, Ahmed Musa & Omeruo in search of experience and last opportunity for them to prove their quality.
Many fans believe he also needs the services of ‘Golden Boy’ Chinedu Obasi, Obafemi Martins and Austin Ejide in his provisional list of 35 approved by FIFA, from where he draws his 23. I totally agree.
Nigeria’s lost to inexperience at US ’94. Not again!
Obasi just got signed up at Bolton last week. He is still fresh at 31, and has loads of experience & goals. His statistics: 58 goals in 177 league matches, and 85 starts.
However, Martins also boasts of firepower, goals & experience, logging 109 goals in 296 league matches – from Italy, England, Spain, USA to Shanghai Shenhua in China.
Whoever is saying that their inclusion would unbalance team spirit doesn’t know much about the game.
The team would rather welcome experience than suffer early ouster from the tournament.
Coach Gernot Rohr is a soccer psychologist and should get his balance of youth and experience calling up these names.
The NFF ambition is clear though unwritten: WIN the WC.
Every stone is unturned & hands are on deck to actualize this task. Only enemies of SE & Nigeria will be thinking differently. We will continue to press for the inclusion of our best, including experience goalkeepers for the final list. We hear Carl Ikeme is likely to make the list ahead of the friendlies. Maduka Okoye is still unconfirmed, but likely to make the list against Poland & Serbia.
Let’s give the team & NFF the prayers and support they desperately need.

    • I cry for you kingmaker….with all these people you are mentioning don’t forget only 23 will make it….not everyone can be carried…some of these people you are mentioning…. Sorry to say….will not make it

  • On current form, Joel Obi is better than Onazi,John Ogu,or Uche Agbo, or even Mikel Agu.

  • Edoman of New Jersey, USA. 9 months ago

CJ, thanks for your views, Joel is superior to Onazi who is currently worming the beach. Joel is more experienced and better exposed than Ogu and Uche. Yes, we need strong legs at the back. Croatia is a very strong European team to play against. Ajayi is only playing in Egypt. and l can’t see him make any meaningful impart to bench any existing player.

    • OLISAEKEZIE 9 months ago

EMMANUEL AMUNEKE WAS ALSO PLAYING IN EGYPT BUT BECAME ONE OF OUR BESTPLAYERS IN TUNISIA 94 AND USA 94.

  • Gideon S 9 months ago

I even wanna see Henry Onyekuru actively back in action before the 35 players select. SE need a strong bench in WC, made up of young and old experience players. Argentina is beatable again even with my man, Messi

  • Gideon S 9 months ago

NFA is on track, giving the experience coach free hand

  • Babajide 9 months ago

I’m impressed with the coach but there is a name i’m not hearing anything about. He is presently Nigeria’s best player going forward at the moment. He is in a class of his own & really, having him in that SE squad would be great. His name is Samuel Kalu, plays for KAA GENT in Belgium. Kindly go look him up on youtube and have a feel of what i’m saying.

  • Fidelenny 9 months ago

Onazi is Eagles deputy captain but has been out of form lately for his team, needs to improve his game. However, he’s always a different player in the national team, he plays with so much zeal and passion.

  • I still hear people say we need taiwo, kalu uche, obasi. I wonder how these people watch football.

  • DIUTO NWACHUKWU 9 months ago

@Tony, DON’T THOSE PPLE WHO WATCH FOOTBALL WITH THEIR NOSE INSTEAD OF WITH THEIR TWO NAKED EYES!

  • Well…[email protected] Ola, u av a point u know? But Leon balogun is an injury prone too and when u talk of d chemistry aspect (BTW him n Mikel Obi), pls, try and watch d replay of Nigeria against Argentina which we won by 4 – 1 in Nigeria June, 2011 and against Ghana in London which ended (0 – 0) on Oct, 2011. I can’t remember ever putting any blame on Joel in a match apart from this injury of a thing. Its better we have a player that’ll play one to three matches in a tournament than to av on without a single match throughout a tournament. If Joel is good to go then let’s back him up with prayers. We don’t want another Gabriel reuben , Uzoenyi, agbim so on in our world cup squad bro.
