Ajayi Unlikely To Join Super Eagles In January

Arsenal central defender Semi Ajayi may not join the Super Eagles squad in Abu Dhabi next month for exhibition matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Mali as a section of the media has reported.

Had Nigeria qualified for the 2015 African Cup of Nations(AFCON), the English Premier League side would have no choice than to release the former Flying Eagles stopper or face the wrath of football’s governing body, FIFA.

In theory, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) cannot twist the arm of Arsenal to part with Semi Ajayi, as the Cote d’Ivoire and Mali games are outside the international window.

The 21-year-old’s agent had confirmed as much after he strongly hinted that his client may be unavailable for the friendly matches.

“I am not sure Semi will feature in the games in January. At the moment, everything is up in the air,” said Semi Ajayi’s agent to SL10.ng.

18 months have now passed since the centre back trained with the Flying Eagles, only for him to be dropped by John Obuh before the squad left for Turkey for the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Semi Ajayi has reportedly stated that his priority is to represent the country’s Olympic team during the 2016 Games in the Brazilian city of Rio De Janiero.

Ajayi is a promising talent in his trade. A rare gen of his time and should given more call for national matches.
