By Adeboye Amosu: Home-based Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye, says he is enjoying the competition for places in the team ahead of the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco , reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
The Plateau United goalie is among the 30 players currently battling for inclusion in the final 23-man squad for the competition meant for players plying their trade in their countries’ domestic leagues.
Suraj Ayeleso’s late invitation to the team has increased the number of goalkeepers in camp to four with handler of the side, Salisu Yusuf expected to prune down the number to three before the finals.
But Ajiboye is unfazed by the challenge which he believes is good for the team.
“Everyone is fighting really hard to make final list for the CHAN which is the ideal thing in this situation,” the former junior international stated in a chat with Completesportsnigeria. com.
“The CHAN is a big competition and we all want to be part of it. It is an opportunity to showcase our talents to the outside world and may be get a chance in the World Cup team.
“It’s good to give the coaches selection headache too. We have to make it difficult for them to pick the final list for the competition.
“The national team is not a place where you come and play, it is for serious minded players who want to make their country proud. ”
The Home Eagles will play in Group C at the CHAN along with Rwanda, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.
Nigeria’s opening game is against the Amavubi of Rwanda on January 15 in Tangier.
The competition will run from from January 13 to February 4.
