By Adeboye Amosu: Enyimba defender, Chima Akas, has been excused to leave the home-based Super Eagles camp in Abuja by head coach, Salisu Yusuf, to pursue a professional career in Sweden, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The left-back was initially left out of the provisional 30-man list released by Yusuf ahead of the Nigeria Professional Football League Invitational tournament in Kano as he was undergoing trials with an unnamed Swedish club in at that time.
But he was recalled to the team on his return to the country as replacement for the injured Joseph Osadiaye.
“Chima Akas is no longer in camp with us. He has been excused to leave the camp by coach Salisu Yusuf,” the team media officer, Toyin Ibitoye disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
“For now, the coach has not decided on whether he will bring in a replacement for him or not.”
Akas captained the Home Eagles at the last CHAN in 2016 in Rwanda.
His withdrawal from the team may have now paved the way for youngster, Ikouewen Udoh, to make the final list, and with his Enyimba teammate Nasiru Sani who play in the same position now hit with malaria and has also been excused from camp.
Udoh who impressed for Enyimba during the NPFL Invitational was invited to join the team on Thursday.
Daniel Itodo who plays for NPFL champions Plateau United is the other left-back in the team.
