Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has stated in that the Super Eagles did not play to their technical abilities but refuted insinuations that they underestimated South Africa who defeated them 2-0 in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Goals from Tokelo Rantie and Percy Tau gave coach Stuart Baxter a bright start to his second reign as coach of the team.
Akpeyi who absolved himself of any blame in the two goals conceded during the encounter told Completesportsnigeria.com: "It was really disappointing. We didn't get our rhythm in the second half. I wouldn't want to blame it on anybody but I think it's something the coach must look into.
"I don't really think we underrated the South Africans, the coach often harped on focus but it's unfortunate we lost our focus and I don't know the reason why.
"Somehow in the second half of the game we lost our rhythm and our focus but I believe we will bounce back."
