By Adeboye Amosu: Algeria and Dinamo Zagreb forward Hilal Soudani has warned Croatia that the Super Eagles will be a tough nut to crack in their Group D fixture at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Super Eagles were unbeaten in the qualifiers and booked their passage to the mundial from a tough group that had Algeria, African champions Cameroon and Zambia.
Soudani’s Algerian team lost 3-1 against the West Africans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo in their first meeting in the qualifiers and needed a late controversial penalty converted by Yacine Brahimi to earn a share of the spoils in the reverse fixture in Constantine.
Having watched Gernot Rohr’s charges from close quarters, Soudani believes they will be dangerous customers for the Croats in Russia.
“I did not play in one game, but I watched the game on television and I can say Nigeria is an extremely powerful team. They are physically powerful, really powerful,” Soudani told Sportske.jutarnji.hr.
“Apart from that, they have a lot of players in big clubs and they didn’t lose a game in the qualifiers.
“They have Mikel Obi and Victor Moses who plays for Chelsea and other good players too. I think Croatia need to be careful.
“They beat Argentina 4-2 few weeks ago in a friendly match. Though you could say it was a friendly game, but it was a victory that points to Nigeria as a serious contender in the group.
“Croatia and Argentina are better than Nigeria especially if you look at the players they have, but they really have to look at Nigeria, for me they are almost at the same level.”
Both countries will clash in their first Group D game on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium. Argentina and Iceland are the other teams in the group.
