Akwa United forward Ibrahim Alhassan is confident the home-based Super Eagles are on course to make Nigeria proud in their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Benin Republic.
The Home Eagles, who are camping in Kano, face their neighbours for a place at next year's CHAN, with the first leg of the tie scheduled for Cotonou on 13 August.
"I have arrived in camp and hopefully we will not disappoint Nigerians against Benin Republic," Alhassan, who has already played with the full Super Eagles team, told Completesportsnigeria.com.
He then played down his penalty miss against Rivers United in a rescheduled matchday 22 Nigeria Professional Football League clash which ended 1-1 in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Alhassan had the chance to put Akwa United 2-1 up but his penalty was saved by Rivers United goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi.
"I believe missing penalties can happen to anybody," he explained to Completesportsnigeria. com.
"Even the best players have missed penalties before. The most important thing is to move on and focus the next game.
" For me it was a good draw for us, after all we did not lose the game, especially considering it was an away game for us.
"We will continue to work hard towards our remaining games of the season to make sure we end the season well."
