Nigerian forward Sone Aluko made two assists in his 36th Championship appearance for Fulham who shocked promotion favourites Newcastle United 3-1 away at St James Park on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Aluko who has scored six goals this season for Fulham played the full game. Fulham have now won five of their last seven league games and are just two points off a play-offs spot with a game in hand.
At the Molineux, Nigeria’s first choice goalkeepeer Carl Ikeme kept his ninth clean sheet of the season for Wolverhampton Wanderers who defeated Rotherham United 1-0.
Ikeme twice rescued his side with saves from Danny Ward before Wolves scored in first-half injury time.
The win was Wolves’ first since January 31 and it leaves Paul Lambert’s side still just a point clear of the relegation zone in 20th position in the Championship log.
Ikeme has made 29 appearances in the English second-tier this season, conceding 33 goals.
At Carrow Road, Hope Akpan replaced Danny Guthrie in the 56th minute as 10-man Norwich earned a share of the spoils against his Blackburn Rovers side.
In Spain, Elderson Echiejile played from the 73rd minute as his side Sporting Gijon were forced to a 1-1 draw away to Valencia.
It was his third appearance for the 19th-placed team in LaLiga.
In Germany, Leon Balogun was an unused substitute for Mainz who lost 2-1 away to Darmstadt. Balogun is yet to feature for Mainz in 2017.
In France, Vincent Enyeama conceded a goal in Lille’s 2-1 win away to Nancy on Saturday. It was the 36th goal the former Nigerian skipper has let in, in 28 Ligue 1 matches this season.
In Portugal, Oghenekaro Etebo played for 74 minutes as Feirense defeated Vitoria de Setubal 2-1.
Alex Iwobi was an unused substitute for Arsenal who qualified for the English FA Cup semi-finals by defeating National League side Lincoln City FC 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday
