The Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation Musa Amadu believes that the relatively average performances of the Super Eagles in their buildup friendlies ahead of the World Cup in Brazil served as wake up call to the team and a blessing in disguise.
The Eagles rounded off their preparations for the World Cup with a 2-1 defeat to the USA, after draws against Italy, Scotland and Greece.
There are fears from some sections of Nigerian fans that the Nigerian national team may have a World Cup to forget due to the players that eventually made the Nigerian squad to the mundial.
“If the Eagles had won all the three friendlies (Scotland, Greece and USA), they could be complacent going into the World Cup. There could be this feeling of “we have arrived” in the minds of the players.
The results has kept everybody on alert. With the two draws and a defeat to USA, those results could as well be a blessing in disguise,” the NFF scribe states.
The Eagles arrived Sao Paolo in the early hours of Wednesday (in Nigeria) from Miami, USA
