Ambrose: My Experience Can Help Super Eagles At Russia 2018

Hibernian defender, Efe Ambrose, says his experience of playing at the highest level could be key for the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup if he makes the squad.

Ambrose has not featured for the Eagles since facing Egypt in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in 2016.

The former Celtic centre-back also represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and insists he still has plenty to offer if called upon.

“Coming back into the national team would be a great achievement and feeling,” the 2013 AFCON winner told Daily Record.

“To pull on that green-and-white shirt again would be my dream.

“My country gave me the platform to get to where I am today so representing them again would be the best thing that could happen in my career. There is more I can give and more I can achieve. I will never say never.

“I have achieved so many aspirations with my national team, the Olympics, the Under-20s, the Confederations Cup, winning the Nations Cup and playing in the World Cup . I have a lot of good experiences.

“I just want to keep my form going and make sure I am in good shape, that is the most important thing. From there it is up to the gaffer to select me.

“If he sees me playing like I have been and wants to call upon my experience for the World Cup, then why not? That would be my dream, because it has been too long since I was part of the national team.”

Efe Ambrose, please stop trying to talk yourself into the World Cup. The Super Eagles’ coaches are monitoring everybody, thanks to modern IT. If you’re good enough they’ll pick you. Stop begging and marketing yourself.

Efe my friend, Thanks for the National services you kindly gave in the past. But this time around is not about how you feel inside or about your dreams coming through again. It is just that our National Couch believes that there is a better and younger player available to him who could play the role you once played better then you. There is time for everything in life. Efe, you get to move on like everybody did before you.

Efe’s early years as a defensive midfielder and later thriving at right back seem to have moulded him for his current role as a ball-playing Centre-back,most particularly in this modern team set up of playing out from the back.
In today’s Super Eagles,Only Leon Balogun possess the quality to bring out the ball from defence and initiate attack from the rear.If his recurring fitness issues rear it’s ugly head at the World cup,we will be stuck with police game at the back shorn of the finesse to recycle the ball when opponents pressed high up.Let’s put aside our emotions and sentiments, but support the need to go to the world cup with our best 23 players who are physically fit, proper in attitude, and good team ethic.

  • Every player advertise urself if ur performance is good,u should be called upon. No sentiments. Age is not a barrier. People ve different body nature. Who can be active, vast, experienced and commanding even at The age of 50.People like Mikel, obafemi martins, Okocha ,eto have such good nature. Let’s stop talking about age age thing. If u are good and tried and u perform well, u should continue playing. After all USA 1994 eagles were old and experienced forget the age they said they were. They did exraordinary .lets stop retiring our gooD players.
