Sammy Ameobi has another chance to prove he deserves a new deal at Newcastle United when the Magpies face Liverpool at the Sports Direct Arena in today’s lunch hour kick-off.
Ameobi’s goal seven seconds after coming on as a substitute in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspurs last weekend, made history as the fastest scored by a substitute in the league history from open play.
The goal was also a personal milestone for the lanky, pacy winger as it was his first ever goal in the English Premier League since his debut for the Magpies in 2010.
Prior to his goal against Spurs, Ameobi has only previously scored for Newcastle in the football league Cup, a winning goal against Scunthorpe on 25 August 2011.
The talented player is in the last eight months of his deal and the club is yet to offer him a new deal.Building on his impressive showing against Spurs could still sway things in his favour but he won’t be short of suitors if fresh terms are not offered by Newcastle United.
