FIFA Technical study group member and former Nigeria World Cup star Emmanuel Amuneke has stated that the Super Eagles must get at least a draw against Croatia in their 2018 FIFA World Cup opener on Saturday (today) to stand a chance of qualifying from their tough group D, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw in their first group game by debutants, Iceland on Saturday with inspirational captain, Lionel Messi stifled by the Icelandic team.
Amuneke who starred for Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup added that the Super Eagles technical crew must fashion out a way to outsmart the two teams who played out a draw in Kazan.
“There are no minnows any more in football and that was what Iceland showed us today,” the 1995 African Footballer of the year told CSN from Russia in a chat.
“Iceland were compact and won all the second balls which made Argentina struggle all through the game but we must admit that aside their hard work and astute defending, they were lucky.”
Argentina will face Croatia in their next game while Iceland will take on Nigeria in Volvograd.
