Amuneke: Home Eagles Should Be More Cohesive

Al Khartoum Watani manager, Emmanuel Amuneke, has urged the home-based Super Eagles to overcome their lapses after recording a nervy 1-0 win against Libya in their second Group C of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) on Friday in Tangier, Completesportsnigeria.com reports (CSN) reports.

Shooting Stars forward Sunday Faleye scored the only goal of the encounter in the 76th minute of the encounter.

The Former African Footballer of the Year who watched the encounter however advised the team to be more cohesive in their play and be decisive during crucial match situations.

“They played too cautiously and were not cohesive and decisive during the game, but lucky the ball dropped well for Faleye to score,” Amuneke told Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) shortly after the game.‎

“The win against Libya will bring more confidence to the team and they (Home Eagles) should be able to express themselves the more against Equatorial Guinea. At some point, they looked confused, but I wish them well in their final game.”

The Eagles will head to the city of Agadir, where they play debutants Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday in their final Group C game.

I’m glad no less an individual and great player as Emmanuel Amuneke has hit the nail on the head, and pointed out what arm chair critics have observed across the country. Despite the win against Libya, the CHAN Eagles have been dishing out poor quality football, playing as though they’ve never been coached.

CHAN Eagle need to work as a team and believe in them and stop be nervous in the field. They should see themselves as a professional. see this tournament as a opportunity to showcase their talents to the world.

They were always making misplaced passes and Okpotu strolling around the field like he’s the current world footballer of the year. I would have been more confident with a coach like Amuneke leading this team. I’m tipping (and hoping Rohr does it) Sunday Faleye, Mohammed Nur, Orji, Eze and Ifeanyi to get an invitation to the initial squad for Russia 2018. Okpotu should be put on the next plane back home to Nigeria to join up with Lobi stars please. He’s a short-one.
