Former Nigeria star Emmanuel Amuneke has posited that Barcelona will claim the top spot in the UEFA Champions League Group C ahead of Manchester City after the draw was held on Thursday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Amuneke, a former FC Barcelona winger, stressed that it is not about individual coach or player but more about the club as an institution, in spite of City being led by the man who coached Barca to two Champions League titles, Pep Guardiola.
“That’s a huge fixture but I must say it’s not about Guardiola or (City’s Nigerian youngster) Kelechi Iheanacho,” Amuneke told Completesportsnigeria.com from Spain after the draw.
“No doubt, it’s going to be a good test for the two sides but I believe Barcelona will prevail.
“FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are about the two best clubs in the world today.
“They have solid team, good foundation and youth programme.
“They have evolved over time in terms of their playing culture and of course they have become an institution.
“They will win and top the group even though you cannot underrate the potential of Celtic and Borussia Monchengladbach.
“This is European football and anything can happen but I have my conviction that Barcelona will finish top of the group, followed by Manchester City.
“Of course, if I’m in Spain then, I’ll be at the stadium (Camp Nou) to watch and support him (Kelechi Iheanacho) during the game.”
