Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has urged the U-23 Eagles to emulate the feat of the Super Eagles that held Algeria to a 1-1 draw to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.
Speaking with completesportsnigeria.com, Amuneke posited that it’s only the kind of determination and focus shown by the Eagles back then, that can help them overcome the Congolese on Sunday.
“I recall when we went to Algeria in 1993 for the World Cup qualifier, it’s almost the same with the U-23 team,” Amuneke told completesportsnigeria.com.
“We had to go to Algeria not to lose. Everybody was so determined because we all knew what was at stake. And we all played together and luckily for us, we were ahead before they came behind to equalize.
“So I will advise them to take a cue from that team and I believe with determination and focus, they will emerge victorious.”
The Atlanta Olympic gold medallist went on to advise the team to try and take the few chances that come their way because it will be at a premium.
The winner between the U-23 Eagles and Congo will qualify for the African U-23 Championship in Senegal later in the year.
