REAL MADRID boss Carlo Ancelotti says Angel Di Maria’s ‘lack of control’ was the reason behind his sale to Manchester United.
United smashed the British transfer record in August when they signed Di Maria from Madrid for a whopping £59.7m.
The Argentina winger has hit the ground running at United and played a leading role in Louis van Gaal’s new look attacking side.
Ancelotti, who previously claimed the 26-year-old’s massive wage demands led to his exit from the Bernabeu, has now suggested that Di Maria’s inconsistent form was also behind his decision to sell him to United.
“Di Maria could take matches by storm with his energy, but he also used to lose control sometimes, misplacing important passes,” he told Onda Cero.
Ancelotti splashed out £71m to sign Colombia winger James Rodriguez from big spending French club Monaco.
Many saw Rodriguez, who impressed at the summer’s World Cup, as a direct replacement for Di Maria.
However Ancelotti believes this should not be the case.
“People should think twice before saying that James can fill Di Maria’s boots, because they’re very different players,” he added.
