Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stressed that the Gunners will not sanction the sale of forward Alexis Sanchez to English Premier League rivals Manchester City, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Sanchez has one year left on his contract and has been linked with City where he could reunite with his former manager at Barcelona Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also been mooted as likely destination for the Chilean.
Wenger in his first press conference on Tuesday since the team's arrival in Australia ahead of their pre season friendlies however denied Arsenal's willingness to let Sanchez join City.
"That's a question I didn't expect today," Manchester Evening News quotes the onetime AS Monaco manager on Tuesday.
"The pressure starts again – the first press conference and we are there!
"We'll see, you know. The players have contracts and we expect them to respect their contracts. That's what we want."
"That is a continuation of what I said at the end of last season, that you wouldn’t sell him to another Premier League club," he added.
“I think the easiest way to manage in the final year – it is in his interests to do as well as he can."
The Frenchman added hopefully:. “Nobody knows today if he will be in the final year next season because he can extend the contract with us at the start or during the season so it is not necessarily the last year of his contract at Arsenal Football Club.”
Sanchez has been tipped to leave Arsenal due to the failure of the team to qualify for the Champions League is the coming season.
