Aubameyang To Support Arsenal Teammate Iwobi, Super Eagles In Russia; Hails New Kit

By Johnny Edward:

Gabon captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that he will be supporting the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia because of his club teammate, Alex Iwobi, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Nigeria are in Group D alongside Croatia, Iceland and Argentina.

Aubameyang joined Arsenal in January from Borrusia Dortmund and scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 13 English Premier League appearances. He also expressed his love for the Nigeria’s new kits for the World Cup.

The new Super Eagles kit was reportedly sold out on launch day in London last Friday. The shirt alone is priced by Nike at £64.95 (about N31,000).

“I support Nigeria for World Cup because of my friend @alexiwobi but to tell the truth also because of your @nikefootball kit 😆😂😂. I need one,” Aubameyang tweeted on Thursday.

The tweet was liked by Iwobi who has been Nigeria’s most impressive player in their last three friendlies.

Nigeria will face Croatia in their opening game on 16 June in Kalinigrad before taking on Iceland in at the Volgograd Arena on the 22nd of June. Their final group game is against Argentina in Saint Petersburg four days later.

    Good one from Pierre Aubameyang!
Quickly, I will add my opinion to those expressed but differently.
Crucify the Eagles as much as you desire, it won’t change anything.
Recall, I made a bold & indepth analysis on the team’s personnel infrastructure, pointing to two (2) areas that require overhaul: Goalkeeping & Central striker (Top 9).
I insisted that Eagles are not likely to win a match based on this.
However, I recommended goalkeeper Austin Ejide & Cyreal Dessers or Aaron, Ajayi Jr, Fernando Adi as ppl with killer instincts for the job.
I was castigated to high heavens & maligned much more that my critique deserved.
Today, the same people who swore, cursed and labelled me an AGENT are calling down fire & brimstone on the team, and on Gernot Rohr and SE inability to win friendlies.
So, they have lost their peace so soon?
I have an issue with such people because they only run on emotions.
    Facts are always verifiable.
I have followed the team’s development & progress in all matches, listened to Rohr’s interviews, analysed the reports of local & foreign media and the analyses of experts to re-evaluate the NEW Eagles.
Though the team’s handlers have insisted on going ahead wit the players used in the qualifiers, the advantage of building a bond & relative synergy is handy & vital to team’s harmony and performance.
Yes, there will be a few knocks, here and there, but all will support to strengthen & deepen team’s experience.
This Gernot Rohr team is solid, of top quality & good to go.
I hear fans cry about his tactics & failure to win friendlies.
    Hahahaha! It is laughable matter.
Is winning friendlies more important than building a team to challenge for the Trophy?
What many don’t understand is that Rohr has a hidden plan to WIN the World Cup Trophy with Nigeria.
Believe it or not, the Nff is right behind him to achieve the seemingly impossible feat.
I give Rohr 100% backing to shock the football WORLD, win the group D stage, get into the Quarters, Semis, then Finals where anything is possible.
The gaffer has the quality & antecedent to play in the finals, and wants to do so again on the biggest soccer stage.
Criticize me if you want to but am always spot on.
Next week, Saturday, June 16 – we see the emergence of an African Force, the NEW Super Eagles, dismantling Croatia with soccer artistry yet unseen from an all black team.
I urge Nigerians to stand behind this team not only because they are Nigerians, but because they have the mentality to win and would show it with great flair.
From Mikel Obi, Balogun, Troost-Ekong, Tyronne, Ogu, Etebo, Moses, Brian, Iwobi to Iheanacho hold the mystery that will produce a game of class, quality & magic.
You can bet on Eagles to win and top Group D because that is what Rohr seeks to achieve primarily.
    I am back..!
World Cup is here and Nigeria will Soar.
    Long live Nigeria.
    God bless the team!

@kingmaker, am overwhelmed to see ur write-up, I av been longing for it over time. am glad u re back…I almost gave up on the SE when I watched their last friendly, but something within keeps telling to jst be calm that I will see the re-birth of a new Eagles when the Mundial starts proper. I think I will hold on to that belief.

Aubameyang saying he is supporting the Super Eagles is appreciated and I believe he is speaking the mind of Africans. Africa will support the 5 African teams. Aubameyang will support Alex Iwobi/Nigeria no matter who we are playing. He has not criticized the team. He even wants a jersey. You will get one for sure. Meanwhile I strongly believed that Croatia and Iceland will fall. On papers Argentina is strong but reality nay be controlled by nature.

  • Believe me, GR is not showing the palms of his hands. And the players are not even talking much. This hard German has converted them to do the talking on the battle field. A team that qualified from an aggressive group without losing a game cannot be written off overnight. Has it occurred to people that the only member of the team that is exhibiting his potentials is Uzohor? He is no longer the indecisive goalie we knew when he was called up. His brave performance is understandable for two reasons: first he has to practice for the D-day ahead; secondly he intended to preserve the team’s honour, avoiding defeats with wide margins. GR has introduced complexity to the SE team. He is playing games (sic). I’ll bet my last kobo that they’ll emerge from that deadly group with aplomb.
