BELOW AVERAGE: How Super Eagles Players Rated Vs South Africa

Completesportsnigeria.com's JAMES AGBEREBI rates the Super Eagles after their listless performance in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier 2-0 defeat to South Africa in Uyo…

Daniel Akpeyi: Almost gifted the South Africans the first goal in the first half after spilling a cross which almost resulted in a goal. Though not at fault for both goals, Akpeyi still has a lot to prove (4/10).

Shehu Abdullahi: Was disappointing in his right-back position as he neither carried out his defensive duties properly nor supported the attack. Has a lot of convincing to do to make the right-back position is own (5/10).

William Troost-Ekong: Struggled throughout the game due to the absence of the injured Leon Balogun. Did not show composure, positional sense, co-ordination and experience alongside a young and inexperienced Chidozie Awaziem (4/10).

Chidozie Awaziem: Had a forgettable competitive debut for the Super Eagles as he and his defensive partner Troost-Ekong were all over the place. Got away with a penalty call after appearing to foul a South African player inside the box (4/10).

Elderson Echiejile: One of the biggest disappointments, especially as one of the experienced players in the team. Was at fault for the first goal as he failed to cut out the cross which led to it (3/10).

Ogenyi Onazi: Another of the experienced players who did not cover himself in glory. Failed to marshal the midfield as he looked lost and out of ideas (4/10).

Oghenekaro Etebo: Was lively in the early parts of the game and almost gave the Eagles the lead in the first half but saw his effort from close range go inches wide. Lacked his usual bursting runs from deep and gradually faded away as the game wore on (5/10).

Wilfred Ndidi: Came close to scoring on two occasions in either half but narrowly missed the target. Just like his fellow midfield partners, put up a disappointing performance (5/10).

Alex Iwobi: Had one of his worst ever performances for the Super Eagles as he failed to make any meaningful impact. Was the first player to be subbed off which summed up his woeful performance (3/10).

Kelechi Iheanacho: His only contribution was a pass to Etebo who missed from a good scoring position. Was later yanked off for Olanrewaju Kayode which did not go down well with him as he made no effort to hurry out of the pitch while the scoreline was still 1-0 (3/10).

Moses Simon: Tormented the South African right-back with his pace and dribbling but was let down by poor delivery into the box. Was however replaced after the game had already been won and lost (5/10).

Substitutes

Ahmed Musa: Gave the South African defence something to think about when he came on for Iwobi as he brought pace and direct play into the attack. Unfortunately could not inspire the team to get something from the game (5/10).

Olanrewaju Kayode: Came on for the disappointing Iheanacho and just like Musa, troubled the South African back line. Has a strong case for a starting spot in subsequent games (5/10).

Victor Osimhen: Replaced Simon with four minutes left but did not contribute anything as the game was already a lost cause (no rating).
