AWCON 2018 Final: Dennerby Urges Super Falcons’ Special Performance To Beat Banyana

Super Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby, insists his team must produce a performance better than they had in their previous games of the AWCON 2018 to beat the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in Saturday’s final at the Accra Sports Stadium, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Nigerian ladies started their AWCON 2018 campaign on a poor note going down to a 1-0 defeat to South Africa but have since recovered from that setback to make it all the way to the final.

The defending champions produced a fine performance in the other group games against Zambia and Equatorial Guinea, winning 4-0 and 6- 0 respectively.

The Falcons were however dominated for long spells in their AWCON 2018 semi-final win against Cameroon before eventually prevailing 4-2 on penalties.

The Swede has however tasked his players to up their game in Saturday’s AWCON 2018 final in order to avenge their defeat to the Banyana Banyana in the first game

“We are carrying on with the same plans as always, we will have to improve our attacking play against the better teams and hopefully we will see an improved performance tomorrow,” Dennerby told reporters during his AWCON 2018 final pre-match press conference at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

“All our players are fit to play except something happens before the final. It is my first time of coaching on the continent and nobody will be happier than me if we can win.”

The South Africans are still the only unbeaten team of AWCON 2018, and have played a delightful attacking brand of football.

The Banyana Banyana also have the competition top scorer Thembi Kgatlana (five goals) in their ranks, but Dennerby says he has mapped out a plan to stop their opponents in AWCON final.

“We need to stay strong defensively, we need to pass a bit more rather than play early long balls because that makes it easy for the opposition defenders. We need to take our chances and play like we did against Zambia and Equatorial Guinea,” he added.

He also provides updates on the fitness level of his team ahead of the AWCON final.

“We had treatment for all the players, rehab training, a post-match meeting & we’re training towards tomorrow’s game,”Dennerby stated.

Chima are you surprised that Ghanians hate Nigeria, it’s been long. Its an old story. They are always jealous of us. They believe we are nothing in the game of football. The same with South Africa. I urge all Nigerians living in Ghana especially in Accra to put on the green there green and cheer our girls to victory. I urge our players to play our traditional football confidently and be ready to make runs in attacking the South Africans. This is a game of outlet lives because pride is at stake. Wish the super falcons all the best.
