Defending champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will look to secure a place in the final of the AWCON 2018 when they take on the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon today (Tuesday) in their semi-final tie at the Accra Sports Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Super Falcons head into the match on the back of impressive wins against the Shepolopolo of Zambia and Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea.
Thomas Dennerby’s charges started the AWCON 2018 on a disappointing note going down to a shocking 1-0 defeat to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa, but now look back to their best having scored 10 goals without conceding in the last two games in the AWCON 2018.
The Nigerian ladies have proved their superiority against the Cameroonians in previous outings having won nine out of their previous 11 meetings.
Two of the defeats have come in the final of the last two editions of AWCON an indication that the Cameroonians will be all out for a revenge this time around.
The Cameroonians have also showed their intention at AWCON 2018 with two wins and a draw in their three group games. They were also responsible for the exit of hosts Ghana.
Super Falcons captain, Onome Ebi reckoned that it will be tough fight between the two countries this time around.
“We have progressed step by step and we are now facing the Cameroonians. The Cameroonian team has steadily improved over the years and every time we play against them, it’s always a good fight,” Ebi stated.
“Some said that our team has aged. I will tell them that the Super Falcons are not the under-17s, the under-20s or the under-23s. This is the senior national team and does not impose any age requirements.
“The coach chooses the ones that seem the best without consulting their identity documents.”
