Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has joined the band of present and past Nigerian football stars who expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the Super Eagles in Monday’s Round of 16 game against France.
Stephen Keshi’s team succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to their French opponents despite starting the game strongly. Paul Pogba scored after an error of judgement from Vincent Enyeama who had hitherto been impressive and an own goal from captain Joseph Yobo, both in the second half.
Awoniyi who believes his time to represent Nigeria at the global stage will come in 2018 when Russia hosts the World Cup tells Completesportsnigeria.com how he feels about the outcome of the game in Brasilia.
“The game was an interesting one,” states Awoniyi. “The Super Eagles did very well but were just unlucky. No matter what,am still ‘NAIJA’ (Nigerian) boy.
“I pray God gives me the grace to be among those players that will play in 2018 and help us to make history, by becoming the first African team to bring the World Cup to Africa.
“‘Up Nigeria’ our nation cannot be changed, Kudos to our great senior team…’Up Nigeria’, Up Super Eagles, Up Flying Eagles…the team that will make history,” Awoniyi, a key member of the Golden Eaglets team that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year enthuses.
The Kalmar FC of Sweden youngster finally wishes Lazio midfielder a speedy recovery from his ankle injury in the game against France.
“I wish the players of the Super Eagles who have suffered one injury or the other quick recoveries especially Ogenyi Onazi, his injury really looked serious,” Awoniyi concludes .
