Nigeria U-23 striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has expressed his delight following the team’s qualification for the African U-23 Championship, after playing goalless against Congo in Pointe Noire on Sunday.
The U-23 Eagles took a slim 2-1 lead to Congo and held the Claude Leroy-led side to advance to the African championship holding in Senegal.
Reacting to the qualification, Awoniyi wrote on his facebook page: “Through him alone we can do all things. Thank you Lord for the qualification and seeing us through to the next stage.”
At the inaugural African U-23 Championship held in Morocco, the U-23 Eagles, under Austin Eguavoen, crashed out in the group stage that had Morocco, Senegal and Algeria.
Meanwhile, they will take part in the All Africa Games in Brazaville, Congo.
