Babangida: Rohr’s 23 Man Squad Vs Cameroon The Best Nigeria Can Offer

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria international Tijani Babangida has backed the 23-man squad released by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr on Tuesday ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cameroon in Uyo on September 1st and 4th as the best available, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Top on the list of invited players are Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi who only recently returned from injury, Odion Ighalo, Leon Balogun and Victor Moses who are all making a return to the team.

Also listed are Ahmed Musa, Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, Alex Iwobi, Oghenekaro Etebo, William Troost-Ekong, Elderson Echiejile, Daniel Akpeyi, Dele Alampasu, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

The list also include Kelechi Iheanacho, Tyronne Ebuehi, Moses Simon amongst others.

Babangida who represented Nigeria at the France 1998 World Cup passed his verdict on the invited players, insisting that Rohr has invited the best legs the Nigeria can offer now.

“Since our loss to South Africa, it’s like we’ve become jittery,” the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games gold medal winner told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“But now, we have not left any stone unturned. We have gone out to invite everybody we feel can do it for us because of the fear of not allowing what happened against South Africa to repeat itself.

“Having said this, I think this is the best we can offer and the best players that are expected to do it for us. Hopefully they will give us their best.”

The former Ajax Amsterdam winger added: “I don’t think the coach has left anybody out. Like I said, these are the best players the coach believe can do the job.”

The Super Eagles top Group B on six points after two rounds of games, and are followed by Cameroon who have two points from the same number of games.

In third position are Zambia on one point, while Algeria are bottom also on one point.

Maximum points only if u will be playing it alone on the pitch, Nigerians think that games are won in boardrooms, hotels, Cameroon has also not named its squad but they are busy preparing, u dont win matches before they are played never!!! u can not write off a team such as CAMEROON which is full of shocker and surprises!! even average South Africa humbled super eagles because of the same mentality!!!
