Brazil and Barcelona superstar Neymar has admitted he needs to improve on his game so as to reach the heights attained by the duo of Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.
The three stars are nominees for the 2015 Balon D'Or Award on Monday evening and Neymar alongside the the duo of Messi and Ronaldo were asked prior to the start of the award ceremony of their feelings about the other 's games and their chances of winning the award.
Neymar reflected humility in his assessment of his chances to win the prestigious award as the best football player in the world.
"'They have made history. Both Cristiano and Leo. I admire him (Lionel Messi) not only on the pitch but for the kind of guy he is. I have fallen in love with him! I wish them every success. They have been nominated for nine years and I hope to be able to follow in their footsteps.'
The captain of the Brazilian national team tactfully refused to comment on whether his game could presently be compared to the former winners with whom the whole world will focus on. Messi is a four-time winner while Ronaldo currently is the proud owner of the prize-that is probably before the end of Monday's award.
"I don't know if I think I am up to their level. These are two idols and if you have idols it's difficult to perceive yourself as an equal or better.
" I want to improve constantly and give my best at every match. That's much more important than trying to be better them," Neymar said.
The award ceremony starts 7pm Nigerian time.
