FSV Mainz defender Leon Balogun was pleased to see the Super Eagles win 3-1 over Algeria in their 2018 World Cup qualifying match in front of the overwhelming home supporters at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
A brace from Victor Moses and close range strike from John Mikel Obi maintained Nigeria's 100% record in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
The 28 year old who returned to the starting lineup after missing match-day-one win away to Zambia in Ndola last month, added that the three time AFCON winners showed great mentality to see the game through after Nabil Bentaleb's 30 yards screamer in the 67 minute gave the Algerians a glimmer of hope at 2-1.
"Been a tough match but we showed great mentality! Overwhelmed by the love Nigerians show me! Exactly what I needed, thanks," Balogun tweeted via his Twitter handle: @LeonBalogun.
Also Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme who missed the game on account of a hip injury said the result was a great one for the team.
Ikeme tweeted after the game via his handle, @Carl_Ikeme; "Great result."
Nigeria currently top of Group B with six points, four points ahead of second placed Indomitable Lions of Cameroon who were forced to a 1-1 draw at home by Zambia in the other group fixture.
The Super Eagles face Cameroun in Uyo next year in their third game of the Group B..
