The three-match ban handed out to FSV Mainz' defender Leon Balogun has been reduced by the German Football Association disciplinary committee, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Nigerian international who was initially banned for three games after he deliberately kneed Eintracht Frankfurt's Carlos Zambrano in a Bundesliga match a fortnight ago also saw his suspension reduced to two games after he had a verbal hearing with the German Football Association’s sports tribunal on Tuesday.
Balogun was able to convince the tribunal that he didn’t intentionally step on the Frankfurt defender who wasn’t injured by the altercation.
The change means that the centre-back will be available for Mainz’s final home match of the season against Hertha BSC (Saturday 14th May) but will sit out games against Hamburger SV and Stuttgart.
The 27-year-old who has scored once in 21 Bundesliga appearances.
