Barcelona Honour Terror Attack Victims In LaLiga Win

Barcelona began their 2017/2018 LaLiga campaign on Sunday night against Real Betis with a 2-0 win at Camp Nou.

A minute silence was observed in honour of those who were killed in Thursday night’s terror attacks in Barcelona where at least 14 people were killed when a vehicle rammed into a crowd of pedestrians.

Sergi Roberto, Alin Tosca (own goal) scored the goals for the hosts who lost the Spanish Super Cup to Real Madrid last week.

Barcelona players wore their traditional blue and maroon jerseys without their names on the back; they had ‘Barcelona’ instead.

Lionel Messi, who hit the posts thrice, went agonisingly close to opening his LaLiga goals account in the 25th minute but his low shot after ghosting past his markers was off target. He also hit the woodwork ten minutes later.

Barcelona scored their first goal of the night courtesy of a Tosca own goal in the 36th minute.

The ball took a slight deflection off the defender’s foot as he tried to clear Gerard Deulofeu’s shot before Roberto doubled the Catalans’ lead just two minutes later with a tidy finish after some sloppy defending by the visitors.

Messi struck the woodwork again with ten minutes left on the clock, Adan well beaten.
